All access driveways within County road right-of-way must be approved by the Nueces County Department of Public Works prior to installation.
Access driveways shall be for the bona fide purpose of securing access to abutting property and shall not be used for parking or other purposes.
II. LOCATION
Access driveways shall be located to provide maximum safety for roadway traffic and users of the driveway.
III.DRIVEWAY WIDTH
Private Driveways
Minimum Width - 16 feet Maximum Width - 24 feet
Commercial Driveways
Minimum Width - 16 feet Maximum Width - 45 feet
IV.DRAINAGE STRUCTURES
The size of opening and length of pipe or other type of drainage structure will be determined by the Nueces County Department of Public Works
All driveway pipe or drainage structure shall be constructed of reinforced concrete, unless otherwise approved.
All driveway pipe shall have sloped ends of 6:1 (6 horizontal to 1 vertical), both upstream and downstream.
The cost of driveway pipe or drainage structure, such as concrete box culvert, shall be the sole responsibility of the property owner.
V.DRIVEWAY INSTALLATION
Private Driveways
Platted Subdivisions
In subdivisions platted after December 2006, the construction and installation of driveways is the responsibility of the subdivision developer. The design, location, and construction of the driveways must conform to the Nueces County Subdivision Regulations and Platting Requirements and will be shown in the construction plans for the subdivision.
Other Locations
Upon approval of the design and location of a private access driveway the Nueces County Department of Public Works will install any required culvert pipe and furnish and install any required fill and base material within the County road right-of-way.
The cost of the culvert pipe or other drainage structure, such as concrete box culvert, and any delivery costs are the responsibility of the property owner.
Commercial Driveways
Once the proposed driveway design is approved by the Nueces County Department of Public Works, the cost of all materials and installation in the responsibility of the property owner.
If necessary, the Nueces County Department of Public Works will mark of otherwise provide ditch grades and elevations.
VI.PAVING OF DRIVEWAYS
At the sole expense of the property owner, the driveway may be paved. Paving may consist of hot mix asphalt, seal coat surface treatment, or reinforced concrete.
If reinforced concrete pavement is used it is to be placed no closer than 8 feet from the travel way. In addition, at the right-of-way line, there shall be a pre-molded or board joint. The area between the reinforced concrete and the travel way may be paved with either hot mix asphalt or seal coat surface treatment.
The maintenance of the driveway pavement is the responsibility of the property owner.
VII. MAINTENANCE
Private Driveways
Maintenance of all private access driveways is the responsibility of the property owner.
The Nueces County Department of Public Works may assist with the maintenance of private access driveways when performing maintenance or repair on the adjacent roadway.
Commercial Driveways
Maintenance of all commercial access driveways is the responsibility of the property owner.
VIII. ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION AND RECONSTRUCTION
Any existing access driveways that are destroyed, removed, or altered in the construction or reconstruction of a section of road will be replaced or reconstructed by the Nueces County Department of Public Works to a design within current regulations and a condition equal to or better than the original driveway.
IX. PUBLIC SAFETY
Nueces County reserves the right to perform any operation on either a private or commercial access driveway that is necessary to protect the safety of the public or to preserve the integrity of the roadway.
