David Stith received his Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech School of Law and his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of North Texas. After gaining Texas Bar Admission in 1998 he went into practice with his father. A love of the Gulf and the people of South Texas led him to move to Corpus Christi in 2003. In 2005 Judge Stith became Board Certified in Criminal Law and was appointed as a Special Prosecutor in Bee County to handle high level felony cases. Until his appointment to the bench of Nueces County Court at Law 3 in November of 2011 he practiced criminal law in both state and federal courts and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Stith was also appointed to the Nueces County Coastal Parks Board in 2004, and with other members of the board, Mr. Stith helped expand Bob Hall Pier, fix the Padre Bali Park office, create nature and birding areas at Packery Channel County Park, and worked with the City to renovate Briscoe King Pavilion into a year round facility. In 2011, Mr. Stith was elected Presiding Judge of the County Courts at Law, and was recently elected President of the Nueces County Bar Association. His contributions helped other attorneys, court processes and taxpayers as his advocacy for innovation led to improved efficiency. Over the past years, Mr. Stith worked with the Board of Judges, County Commissioners and involved technical specialists to establish a Bar Association funded attorney's work area and Wi Fi in the court house, allowing speedier conferences, an onsite work area and greater access to information. He also started the Spanish for Lawyers program and the indigent defense project that streamlined processes and payments for court appointed attorneys. Mr. Stith served as a Pro Bono Attorney for many volunteer organziations, and was an advocate for the charity program Compassion International, He is also a member of Rotary International and a regular guest lecturer at Texas A&M University. Judge Stith met his wife Carlie in 2007. Carlie is from Port Lavaca and graduated from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and is a Probation Officer. They married in 2010 and they are expecting their first child in 2012. |
